Over the years, 28 of Alex's projects were awarded prizes in competitions. In 1966, he won the first prize in a free competition to commemorate the tragedy at Babi Yar, but the Ukrainian Government didn't want a Jewish architect in charge of the monument and its construction; therefore, Babi Yar monument was not built at that time. In 1991, Artist decided to leave Kiev with his family. In 1992, Alexander Shteynberg arrived in Philadelphia where he continued working on his major theme - The Holocaust. He created a powerful triptych dedicated as a memorial to Babi Yar. Since 1992 his paintings have been on display in professional galleries, banks, synagogues, colleges, etc. |
