Peter E. Tanner

I have been painting for about 25 years. I have worked with other mediums such as photography (8 years as a photojournalist  -  magazine, industrial and news pictures)  and Laser light shows (5 years at the Vancouver Planetarium). I began painting in the Carnivals as a show painter in the mid-1970's where I worked with oil and enamel paint, decorating rides, trucks and games. Painting always has been and always will be my passion. I started learning the fundamentals of art from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design as a part time student in 1985. Since the development of computer arts, I have kept up with the times as much as I could to develop art in a virtual space... With Corel Draw, Photo Shop and 3D Studio Max. These virtual mediums have influenced my painting greatly.

The Storyteller of Rhem

Hand to Eye

The Hatchling

Our image finds Snow Ball standing in the speakers chair, describing a CITY OF DRAGONS he has found on his adventure away from the ORB CITY where Snow Ball lives.

Growing up in the interior of BC, I realized that I had a gift of exceptional eye sight. To this end, I have had a close affiliation with eyes and vision. This image calls to mind the expression "The future is in your hands." Eye sight to me is the one most important detail of being alive in the 21st century.

The Hatchling, which is an acrylic on canvass made in 1998 (same as THE STORYTELLER OF RHEM-1998).

The Hatchling is also an image from the acrylic on canvass series that storyteller belongs, from the Dragon City.

Eclipse

Five Elements

The Duck Pond

It is an acrylic on canvas with much extra strips and circles for extra texture. The red orb of the eclipse has many circles of canvas stacked, each one smaller than the first. I wanted to give the feel of a planet, bulging out of the canvas.

Acrylic on canvas, with many strips of canvas attached to the surface with acrylic medium, then the acrylic glazes applied to give extra depth and body.  This painting is the starting idea of a new series in which I have been working this year.

This is my latest image in the new 3D canvas series, called "The Duck Pond" year 2000. There is much 3D here, texture, water ripples and glazes. The animation stuff I work on only partially satisfies my thirst to see three dimensional images.

Invasion

Bermuda Triangle

Color Horse... 16" x 20" acrylic on canvas with extra strips of canvas and paper mache to give that extra 3D effect.

This is another of the Orb series called "Invasion" created in 1998, as part of an acrylic on canvas story of Snow Ball Orb of Rhem Fantasy.

Acrylic on canvas with extra canvas strips added on the surface for extra texture. Painted in 1999, this image measures 15 1/2" x 14" x 3 3/4" deep.
